超かわいい! Means Super Kawaii!

Behind the makeup counter of every Superdrug, Boots and beauty stores alike - sales assistants are probably wondering, "What is this Manga I'm promoting... and what does it have to do with lashes?!"
As a self confessed nerd and Japan enthusiast I always squeal a little when I see eastern influence on western products.

Yonder in my teenage years I used to drown myself in series and series's of Manga in an attempt to escape reality. I also actively hoped that one day, these books would suck me in, whirlpool style and whisk me away to a fantasy land where everyone was beautiful, blessed magical powers and tasked with the life threatening course of saving the world! But alas, here I am, studying away for uni and wondering which one of my part time jobs will kill me first.

Back on topic, Manga is the name given to Japanese comic books. The style of drawing is inherently different from that of British and American comic artists therefore given it's own genre entirely. Manga depicts flawlessly buoyant hair, perfect facial proportions, impossibly large Bambi eyes and of course luscious long lashes to suit.

I've used this Manga as an example as the artwork is classic Manga style and you can really see what L'Oreal means by Manga lashes.

The campaign has literally taken over the whole website and is accompanied by many interactive features such as a DIY Manga-fy yourself page, a video...

and a tutorial!

See the rest at their website here!

Despite the somewhat cringe-y ad campaign I actually really enjoy the product and it's promotion. But I may just be coveting and embracing the unity of eastern and western influences. Some consumers or just Japanese-culture-fans say that this is "nothing like manga" or a "disgrace" completely "tacky" etc etc. Well of course it's impossible to achieve crazy animated lashes but the emphasis is on the thickness of the lash and in that respect it does what it says. Your lashes are enhanced, look longer and thicker. But I guess some people just like to criticise.

Now for my honest to heart review...

Simple, sleek and classic L'Oreal packaging. A flat side to the tube so that the mascara doesn't annoyingly roll off your makeup table. This mascara is also quite hefty in size (tube?) hopefully it's not packaging and full of good, juicy mascara! The wand is also flexible and can reach even the very corners of your eyes. The brush is huge and picks up a lot of product so upper lashes can become clumpy rather quickly. They work a treat on lower lashes however.

Before

{Plain lashes, no mascara.}

After
{1 - 2 coats, bottom and upper lash.}

{Random but! - Close up of these super cool earrings I got from Forever21! I'm completely infatuated with them!}

I love this mascara and will continue wearing it as part of my everyday make-up routine! It does clump up the upper lashes quite a bit but that can be easily fixed with a lash comb. Works wonders for the bottom lashes too and this mascara comes in 2 other colours; purple & turqoise!

Have you tried this product? What are your views on the ad campaign?

  2. I think with the 'manga' emphasis is the marketing team is trying to say, "this is so great, that it is [like] lashes seen in manga" (crazy big and pretty). Basically, "If you buy this, you too can also achieve 'Miss Manga' lashes". I like the idea of the campaign >-<

    Those earrings are lovely, I'm not sure why but they give an are of class and elegance.

    NEVER HEARD OF THIS MASCARA BEFORE EITHER. The ad is pretty nifty, not gonna lie! Results are pretty decent + the fact that it doesn't smudge after 12 hours is pretty good in my books.
    (+omg, love those earrings! So princess-y :3 )
